Ball Vs. Bawl Aftermath
  • 08:13 It has been brought to my attention that "balled" is apparently NOT universal slang for "cried". Thanks for that new mental scar, parents. #
  • 12:04 the word, of course, is "bawled." I shall go curl into a fetal position now while clutching a thesaurus to my chest. #
  • 18:55 waiting to go on the radio in Seattle (from Ithaca! it's a technological miracle) and talk Top Blogs. I may be live at 7PM ET/4PM PT. #

2008 Holiday Game Guide
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Image via Wikipedia

Why my job rocks: I got to play video games and get paid for them. Okay, just a couple of games. It's not like I'm Electro-Dan or something. But I got to play  then write quick, fun reviews of two games I enjoy thoroughly for our PCMag Game Guide: Force Unleashed and Gears of War 2. So go read my reviews, and all the rest, and then remember you've got six shopping days left to Xmas and then panic.

Wow, I really gotta get Bioshock.

Helmets and Tinfoil Hats
  • 09:11 i'm adamant that the next big Hollywood blockbuster superhero revival be Atom Ant. I like the helmet. Secret Squirrel, however, can suck it. #
  • 13:30 last week it snowed at home while i was in NYC. today, snow in NYC while i'm home. I WIN. #
  • 13:32 love iGor (my phone), but electromagnetic intererence buzz is bad. Any solution outside of the tinfoil hat equivalent? is.gd/bZCr #
  • 14:48 I have not sent a twitter from my iPhone yet and that's something i need to rectify by making this phone call. tinyurl.com/5kyyr9 #
  • 16:51 nice... I just got timeWarner to drop my cable modem bill from $41.95/mon to $29.95/mon for a year. Thanks for the help, Earthlink. #
  • 17:28 Isn't Apple pulling out of MacWorld is like every electronics maker pulling out of CES. January '10 may be boring. Fingers crossed! #

Almost Human, but then... CES
Star Wars: Ewoks

Image via Wikipedia

  • 09:20 feeling almost human despite the temperature, the snow, and the fact that my neighbors fence fell into my driveway last night. ALMOST. #
  • 10:42 almost asked twitter/facebook today to give me the name of the main Ewok in RofJ. But found it by myself. Internet search cred: restored! #
  • 10:45 that would be Wicket Wysrti Warrick, by the way. Played by Warwick (pronounced Warrick, what a coincidence!) Davis. #
  • 16:18 took just a few short hours for CES to somehow take over my life. I don't anticipate it getting any different between now and 1/8. #

Die, Werewolf! Die, Cylon!

I only recently learned to love Robot Chicken. This scene from the new season opener (tomorrow at 11:30pm on Cartoon Network, or watch the entire episode online) is a good example of why.

No More Humdingers

The Byrne Dairy chain is exiting my old hometown of Hornell, NY, without warning. They have two locations, one a drive through right next to the high school. I'd say it's sad, but of course, the stores are a shadow of their former selves from my childhood.

Back then, the local stores were part of the Elmhurst Dairy chain, before Byrne bought them out. There was a third location not far from my house, where my mom would always send my brother to buy a gallon of milk when we ran out. She'd give us a $20 bill, we'd by milk, then give her the change of around $10. Because milk is expensive when you buy a humdinger or two along with it.

The humdinger: a giant paper cup filled to the hilt with ice cream, chocolate syrup, nuts, and a few other things I'm forgetting. It wasn't about the ingredients, it was the size: these were at least 32 ounce cups. And they cost all of a dollar, if that. Probably more like a quarter. I remember knowing the universe was against the little man when the price went up and the cup got smaller (20 ounces! bah!).

When Byrne finally took over, the Humdinger was officially worthless. Around three bucks for a dixie cup sized ice cream. If they still have it today, it's probably $5 for a sample scoop.

Still, sad to see a couple of more businesses go. (Their excuse to the city: no place for us to put a gas station. Waah.)

Might Be Worth it If He Takes Sylar With Him

io9 snarks it accurately in story "[Bryan] Fuller to Finish Heroes' Season in Style":

"...fans of Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies have another critically-acclaimed, low-rated show to look forward to, for the season or so before it gets cancelled."
