2008 Holiday Game Guide
Image via Wikipedia Why my job rocks: I got to play video games and get paid for them. Okay, just a couple of games. It's not like I'm Electro-Dan or something. But I got to play then write quick, fun reviews of two games I enjoy thoroughly for our PCMag Game Guide: Force Unleashed and Gears of War 2. So go read my reviews, and all the rest, and then remember you've got six shopping days left to Xmas and then panic. ![]()

Die, Werewolf! Die, Cylon!
I only recently learned to love Robot Chicken. This scene from the new season opener (tomorrow at 11:30pm on Cartoon Network, or watch the entire episode online) is a good example of why.

No More Humdingers
The Byrne Dairy chain is exiting my old hometown of Hornell, NY, without warning. They have two locations, one a drive through right next to the high school. I'd say it's sad, but of course, the stores are a shadow of their former selves from my childhood. Back then, the local stores were part of the Elmhurst Dairy chain, before Byrne bought them out. There was a third location not far from my house, where my mom would always send my brother to buy a gallon of milk when we ran out. She'd give us a $20 bill, we'd by milk, then give her the change of around $10. Because milk is expensive when you buy a humdinger or two along with it. The humdinger: a giant paper cup filled to the hilt with ice cream, chocolate syrup, nuts, and a few other things I'm forgetting. It wasn't about the ingredients, it was the size: these were at least 32 ounce cups. And they cost all of a dollar, if that. Probably more like a quarter. I remember knowing the universe was against the little man when the price went up and the cup got smaller (20 ounces! bah!). When Byrne finally took over, the Humdinger was officially worthless. Around three bucks for a dixie cup sized ice cream. If they still have it today, it's probably $5 for a sample scoop. Still, sad to see a couple of more businesses go. (Their excuse to the city: no place for us to put a gas station. Waah.)
