Taming AOL

Since our America Online cover story in May (view it in the online archive at www.accessmagazine.com ), we've discovered new ways to make AOL behave.

Stay online: Stop AOL's habit of kicking you off when it thinks you're "inactive." The AOL New-Member QuickMenu (Keyword: quickmenu) will keep you online until you choose to sign off. You get the added bonus of quick access to news and other features. The QuickMenu is not yet available on Macs.

AOL Mail without AOL: AOL's e-mail is easy to use, but most other e-mail software can't access it. That's a pain if you prefer using Outlook, Eudora or Netscape Messenger. Now you can use your favorite e-mailer to check AOL mail. Download eNetBot Mail, a Windows-only utility that lets you access your AOL mail from any ISP or work-based POP3 e-mail client. (The new Netscape 6 will access AOL mail on its own.)
